This course is designed to prevent accidents related to excavation, trenching, and digging operations by equipping participants with essential safety knowledge. It focuses on identifying excavation hazards, implementing control measures, and complying with safety regulations. Emphasis is given to trench protection methods, soil classification, utility identification, and competent person responsibilities. Practical insights into excavation-related fatalities and near-miss incidents are shared to increase risk awareness. This training ensures that workers and supervisors can recognize and eliminate unsafe practices before incidents occur, maintaining compliance with excavation safety standards.

What Will You Learn?
  • You’ll learn about the major hazards associated with excavation work, such as cave-ins, water accumulation, hazardous atmospheres, and underground utilities. The course covers soil classification and selection of appropriate protective systems—sloping, benching, shoring, or shielding. Participants will understand trench access/egress protocols, atmospheric testing in deeper excavations, and protective barrier placements. Responsibilities of the “competent person,” daily inspection checklists, and rescue planning are also covered. You'll learn how to conduct excavation risk assessments and ensure safe interaction with nearby structures, equipment, and vehicular traffic. This training equips you with skills to implement proactive control measures and maintain compliance with legal excavation safety requirements.
